Things could always be worse. Never forget that.

Then again, things could always be better. Unfortunately, they probably won’t be any time soon, so you should try to get your head around the distinct possibility that this is as good as it gets. If you spend your life waiting for the big wins, you’re not going to appreciate the tiny, incremental wins when they come along. Or the frequent ties.

Not every swing of the bat is going to be a home run. Sometimes, when you’re being overwhelmed, it’s OK to just foul a couple off. Stay alive and with luck you’ll end up getting hit by a pitch and awarded first base.

First base isn’t a bad place from which to ponder how things could be better.
